Dr Afsana Bhurgri Biography

Dr. Afsana Bhurgri was a Sindhi woman philanthropist and social activist. she played the role of a change-maker in the society. She was an Anesthesia doctor by profession and was vice president of Sindh Doctors Association UK and pioneer of a social media group "Sindh Sartiyoon" and a member of the International Sindhi Women Organisation (ISWO).



Early life and Educationn
She was born in Larkano, Sindh. Due to the transfer of her father,  her childhood was spent in various cities of Sindh. She got her early education from Mirpurkhas, and her higher secondary education from Hyderabad and after passing the examination in intermediate from Government Zubeida College, she appeared in the medical college entry test of LMC and graduated from Liqaut Medical College (then and now Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, Jamshoro). She married Atta Waqasi, they have a daughter. Her husband was offered training in England and their family was moved to England, she lived there till her death.

Career
She started house job in Hyderabad civil hospital

Socail services
Dr. Afsana established Sindh Sartyiyun Group on Facebook, with the objectives to encourage women especially those living in the rural areas of Sindh. She organised various social, cultural and educational events for the women of Sindh in particular.
In 2019, Sindhi Wikipedia awareness workshop was organized by her in collaboration with Sindhi Wikipedia community and Sindh Sartiyun in Hyderabad, Sindh, in which an onsite and online training session about Wikipedia was conducted by the member of Sindhi Wikipedia community JogiAsadRajpar

Death
Dr. Afsana died on May 15, 2019, and was buried in England.
